A sound of jazz that expands into electronic spheres in a stylistically diverse and atmospheric way, finding its own unique expression—this is precisely what the Vienna-based trio TELEPORT COLLECTIVE brings to life on their new album “A Monolith’s Dream” (Col Legno).
Teleport Collective focuses on creating a sound that moves between many dimensions—between retro vibes and avant-garde modernity, between composition and free improvisation, between jazz, electronics, fusion, hip-hop, and film soundtrack, between playful lightness, groove, and musical experimentation, between a warm lo-fi atmosphere and machine-like sonic elements.
- Music Austria
"They reimagine elements of fusion jazz from the 1970s in a contemporary context,
bringing it into the present, the 21st century."
- Andreas Felber, OE1
The formation (formerly known as Killah Tofu) was founded in 2014 by Aaron Maria Steiner (keys, sampling, lights), Michael Naphegyi (drums, toys, electronics) and Joachim Huber (bass, tiny machines). They released their debut album “Do The Pump” in 2017 (recognized as one of the Top 10 Albums from Austria in 2017 by Beatboxx), and their second album “Scarraphon” in 2019. Throughout the past years, their live concerts have progressively evolved into captivating amalgamations of composition, improvisation, and experiments with various sonic elements. Various feature guests expand the band's musical spectrum both on stage and in the studio. In 2023 they launched an event series that took place on selected tuesdays at the well-known club for viennese underground, the rhiz. Their third album »A Monolith‘s Dream« is out since September 20th, 2024. The double-LP was released via the internationally recognized label Col Legno and presented on September 22nd at Porgy & Bess, Vienna.
